Grid-based game thing

The title pretty much explains most of this. Finding a title was hard enough, but still. I have for the past couple of weeks been experimenting with a grid-based game concept involving building and resource gathering. In addition,
it also has an economic system inspired by the stock and trading market - having fluctuation, one might say.

The project has been, and continues to be, very educational and fun for me. I have always been a fan of system-based games, and i love creating systems and sub-variants of said systems. This will also be my first grid-based system, which has been interesting to work with. Since the project is 2D, it isn’t too much of a hassle to deal with, but still exciting and challenging at times. With some rules and conditions - it has actually started to be somewhat fun to play.

The project still has a long way to go before it will be ready for any sort of broad “open” testing, since it lacks some core functionality still - but i hope to have it in a playable state by the end of summer. Who knows - a Christmas launch perhaps? or early 2026? Time will tell.

I have incorporated a building system, where the stuff you build is locked to a defined grid. Based on what the stuff you build collides with, will decide if you can build it. There is a predefined collision box, which also functions as a visual indicator (green: OK, red: NOT) to if you’re able to build it or not. I also plan to implement some warning icons that has some sort of information attached to them - if they require some other sort of thing colliding with it to function properly. It could be nifty in a resource gathering / processing scenario. We’ll see!

Either way - this is an update (or just a sign of life?) on my game development journey.
It’s still going strong, even though i am shutting down my development studio.
I’ll write soon!
