How I get stuff done
So - believe it or not, people have asked me how i manage to get so much done. Honestly, i see myself as a medium to medium plus “efficient” dude. There are much things i could do to improve, but that is easier said than done. Although, know that I am trying!
One of my “hacks” is to do it every day. You don’t need to bring your “A-game” every day - just bring any “game” at all. When it comes to making games and apps, that is what i do. Every day, I need to take a look at it. It can be designing, scripting, fixing bugs - anything at all. Some days, i can spend 5 hours, other days, 30 minutes. The most important thing, is to take a look at it. Do SOMETHING - anything. These mere hours and minutes, compound over time; and that is where our goal suddenly appears. In the end, there is a finished product in your hands (or computer).
Make things into routines. I did this with reading as well. I try to read 1 chapter ’a day. For me, reading before i fall asleep has become a “hidden hack”. I get to relax my eyes after a long day of staring at screens, with an actual book. This year, i have also switched into reading English books, trying to improve my vocabulary further. By all means, English TV-shows, movies and games have done their fair share over the course of my life thus far - but the language used in written form, i have found to be broader and more “fancy”. It is exciting too, to use my imagination, creating these characters and their traits in my head. Envisioning the worlds, although be it guided through an already written story and detailed plot. I have grown to like books. Wish i forced myself to read sooner! It worked, and i love it now!
Alrighty - back to my advice to get stuff done. Try this:
- Look at what you want to get done. Look at it often. Even if you don’t do anything about it, look at it.
- Make it a routine, or give it a system, like this: “Each time i walk up the stairs, i do 5 pushups”, for example.
- Remember that you are one person. Your team often consists of you, and you alone. Act accordingly. Realistic.
- When life happens, remember to be present. One evening of development is worth less than one evening with love.
Try some of these, and I swear: you will see results.
Best of luck!
